HPPWD Review Meeting: 890 meter double lane tunnel will be built from Navbahar to Shimla Medical College on Circular Road of Shimla city at a cost of Rs 295 crore

Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, June 05To bring the traffic system of Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla city back on track and to get rid of the traffic jam that lasts for many hours, the ruling Sukhu government of Himachal Pradesh has taken an important decision to build an 890 meter long double lane tunnel from Navbahar petrol pump located below Jakhu hill to Medical College, Shimla on Circular Road.

Let us tell you that a total amount of Rs 295 crore is going to be spent in the construction of 890 meter long double lane tunnel to be built from Navbahar to Medical College, Shimla on Circular Road of the capital Shimla.

The entire information was given by the Honorable Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu while presiding over the meeting of Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (HPPWD) in the capital Shimla on Wednesday.

CM Sukhu informed in the meeting that the new double lane tunnel to be built from Navbahar to Medical College, Shimla on the Circular Road of the capital Shimla is going to be constructed at a cost of Rs 295 crore. He also said that out of Rs 295 crore, an amount of Rs 100 crore was already released and the tender process for the construction of the double lane tunnel is going to be started by the end of June.

CM Sukhu also said that the Himachal Pradesh government is making efforts day and night to get rid of all the serious problems of Shimla city, so that the best facilities can be provided to the local people as well as the large number of tourists coming from all over the world to see the beauty of Shimla.In the meeting, the CM has also given instructions to the Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (HPPWD) officials to remove all the obstacles coming on the circular road of Shimla city to operate all types of vehicles smoothly.

CM Sukhu said that the process of land acquisition for the new double lane tunnel to be built from Navbahar to Medical College, Shimla on the circular road of the capital Shimla will be started within a week.

The CM said that an amount of Rs 122 crore has been allocated to widen and strengthen the circular road of the capital Shimla.

The CM said that the infrastructure for the problems arising regarding parking in the capital Shimla will also be strengthened soon and parking facility for 3000 additional vehicles is going to be built.CM Sukhu said that the Himachal Pradesh government has also started work on the plan to remove overhead wires in Shimla city.He said that underground ducts are going to be laid in Shimla city to remove electrical cables and optical fibers.

CM Sukhu said that in the initial phase of the project of removing overhead wires, underground ducts will be laid especially on Mall Road, Lower Bazaar and Middle Bazaar areas and an amount of Rs 23 crore will be spent by the Himachal Pradesh government in this project.

CM Sukhu has directed all the officials of Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (HPPWD) to complete all the projects of the present government on time in a quality manner, so that the people of Himachal Pradesh can be benefited instead of facing trouble.

In the review meeting of Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (HPPWD), apart from CM Sukhu, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Shimla MLA Harish Janartha, Principal Secretary of Himachal Pradesh Devesh Kumar and Dr. Amandeep Garg, Secretary to CM Rakesh Kanwar, Chief Engineer HPPWD N.K. Singh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Rajiv Kumar and all senior officers of HPPWD have registered their presence.
