The State Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu approved the appointment of 2,061 forest friends in the Forest Department, in which the condition of personal interview of 10 marks has been abolished.

Shimla, October 22: The State Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu approved the appointment of 2,061 forest friends in the Forest Department, in which the condition of personal interview of 10 marks has been abolished.

In the meeting, it was also decided to create and fill the posts of 150 nursing personnel in Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College and Hospital, Hamirpur.

Apart from this, the Cabinet decided to create and fill six posts of Associate Professor and 10 posts of Assistant Professor in the departments of General Medicine, Pediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Anesthesia and Radiology in Medical College Hamirpur.

The Cabinet approved the opening of a new Sub-Divisional Police Officer office in Nadaun of District Hamirpur as well as creation and filling of five posts in various categories.

In the meeting, approval was given to establish a new fire station at Indora in Kangra district. Approval was also given to create and fill 13 posts of various categories for its smooth operation.

The Cabinet also approved the establishment of a new police station at Shinkula under Keylong Police Station in Lahaul-Spiti district as well as creation and filling of six posts in various categories.

The Cabinet decided to transfer the administrative control of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to the Additional Director General (Home Guards and Civil Defence), which will enable the SDRF to function more effectively during disasters and emergency situations. Additionally, deputation of Home Guards for a maximum period of two years was also approved to ensure smooth operation of SDRF.

To promote the use of electric vehicles and reduce dependence on fossil fuel vehicles, the Cabinet approved the involvement of private stakeholders to expand the EV charging station network along the six green corridors of the state. At present, 77 EV charging stations are already functional on the Green Corridor.

The Cabinet also approved the establishment of automated testing station for vehicle fitness assessment, which will use advanced automated equipment. It aims to set up five such stations to provide better service to the citizens of the state.

The meeting decided to approve the recommendations of the Cabinet Sub-Committee headed by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi regarding 450 MW Shongtong Karcham Power Project. This includes directions to the company to ensure completion of the project by the financial year 2026-27.

The Cabinet approved the formation of a Cabinet Sub-Committee to review the functioning of parking facilities operated under PPP model in Shimla city. The committee will be headed by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi. Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh and Town Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani will be members of the committee. Shimla MLA Harish Janartha will act as a special invitee member. This committee will review Lift Parking, Chotta Shimla Parking, Sanjauli Parking, New Bus Stand Parking and Tutikandi Parking.

The meeting also decided to amend the Eco Tourism Policy-2017 in line with the recent amendment made in the Forest Conservation Act (FCA) 2023, which aims to promote and develop eco tourism activities in the state.
