Himachal Pradesh government is going to get the cow shelters located at Jwalaji and Nalagarh investigated. This announcement has been made by Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Chaudhary Chandra Kumar amid heated Assembly proceedings on the issue of irregularities prevalent in many Gau Sadans of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday.

Opposition members were also enraged over a comment by Himachal Pradesh Government’s Agriculture Minister Chandra Kumar. Opposition members created a ruckus in the House, terming Agriculture Minister Chandra Kumar’s statement as irresponsible.

Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania has pacified the opposition by saying that the minister’s words should be removed from the proceedings.

During the proceedings of the House, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that every facility is going to be provided in the cow sanctuaries. If necessary, construction will also be done on private land. Cow has been given the status of mother, the Congress government is not going to limit it to mere papers.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the Himachal government will make efforts to provide good facilities in all the new cow sanctuaries being built in Himachal Pradesh. If government land is not available for the construction of cow sanctuaries, then Himachal government is going to try to acquire private land also. CM Sukhu said that the Himachal government is going to deal strictly with those who leave the cattle in the open. Earlier, Congress MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur questioned in the House that doctors do not go to Gau Sadans in high altitude areas. MLA Vinod Sultanpuri said that the condition of Gau Sadans is so bad and there is a dire need of improvement in it.

The slogan of the budget has been kept as ‘Chalo Gaon Ki Aur’. A large part of the budget has been kept for rural development. Himachal Pradesh is being given step-motherly treatment by the Central Government. Congress ruled states are being discriminated against in GST allocation. Agriculture Minister Chandra Kumar said that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has tried to increase the monthly income of farmers to 25 to 35 thousand rupees through budget provisions. Chief Minister Sukhu has made special arrangements in the budget to attract the youth who are moving away from farming towards farming. Himachal government is going to start cow dung fertilizer purchase scheme from farmers. This scheme is going to be implemented with the help of a private company. The private company is going to provide bags of 5, 10 and 50 kg to the farmers. The farms of the Agriculture Department are going to be given on contract for natural farming under contract farming. The fertilizer purchased from farmers is going to be used first in the farms of the Agriculture Department.

MLA Sanjay Ratan said that during the tenure of the previous government in his constituency, a Gau Sadan was constructed with Rs 5 crore and only one shed and two sheds have been built there in the name of construction. Sanjay Ratan said that one thousand animals were kept here and within three months, about 900 animals have died. He has demanded an investigation into this Gau Sadan. MLA KL Thakur has also raised the issue of poor condition of Gau Sadan in Nalagarh area in the House and demanded an investigation. MLA Satpal Singh Satti suggested that the Himachal government should construct a cow shed somewhere else on the lines of the one built at Malkumajra in Baddi. Agriculture is suffering a loss of Rs 500 crore every year due to stray animals. In such a situation, Himachal government can save agriculture from losses by spending Rs 100 crore.
