Just like the different and vast variety of colours, Holi holds special and sacred significance for different states of India.

UttarPradesh- Latthmaar Holi
When it comes to UttarPradesh, it holds the essence of Shree Krishna & Radha Rani’s Holi celebration as here are situated the Mathura- Birthplace of Shree Krishna, Nandgaon- The place where he was brought up and Barsana- Hometown of Radha Rani.
Latthmaar Holi holds a prolific place in the history of India.
The celebration is made as such, that the women initiate the Celebration by applying Colours on Men after the celebration is done the next they it’s time for men to do the same but the women are all ready with their sticks (Latth) to beat the men who try to apply them colours. Men protect themselves from the latth through a shield and to add cherry on the top, the men who are caught by women are most likely made to dress up like women and play holi.
The entire celebration is done while chanting the names of ‘Shree Krishna and Shree Radha’ and everyone is entirely lost in the devine bhakti of them.
Significance of Latthmaar Holi : It is believed that Shree Krishna went to Barsana with his friends to tease Radha Rani and her friends on holi and in return they chased them with sticks.
Since then it is a ritual to celebrate holi is this way to relive the love of Shree Radha Krishna.
Flower Holi Vrindavan- Phoolon ki holi in Vrindavan is another Beautiful way of playing holi. In this instead of Gulaal Or rang the holi is played using flowers. Vastly Marigold Flower is used for the calebration.
Harayana- Dhulandi Holi
Another way of unfolding the beauty of relations. In Haryana, Dhulandi Holi is celebrated amoung Devars( brother in laws) and bhabhis (sister in laws).
Here, the bhabhi beat their devars as a sum up of all the teasing and tricks their devars have performed to them the entire year.
Later, pot of buttermilk is hung up on a particular height and group of people making pyramid try to reach it and break it just like Bal Krishna used to do.
Maharashtra- Shimga Or Rang Panchami
It starts with holika dahan and then the week long holi is initiatited.
People apply Colours on each other, splash colourful water and dance together.
In Bihar, Holi is more famous with the name Phugwa. It is also begin with Holika Dahan at night as per the mahurat and the next day people apply wet and dry colours on each other.
West Bengal- Basant Utsav
As the name itself suggests, it is the celebration of coming of Basant (Spring). With women dressed in yellow saaree which portrays the abundance.
It prolifically shows the beauty of the Bengali Culture with Traditional songs and dances.
Holi Definitely holds different significance for different regions in India but what unites it, are the colours, the happiness and the love we receive and give to our loved ones.
