Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, March 25: Thousands of tourists reached Shimla, the Queen of Hills, to celebrate Holi. The flow of vehicles coming to Shimla from outside states continued throughout the day on Sunday. 70 percent of the rooms in hotels are booked. Due to increase in tourist traffic, the faces of businessmen of Shimla city have brightened up. Tourism businessmen are expecting good profits as a large number of tourists reached Shimla on Sunday, a day before Holi. There was a crowd of tourists throughout the day at Ridge Ground and Mall Road. According to hoteliers, till Friday only 40 percent of the rooms in the hotels of Shimla city were booked, whereas on Saturday the room booking had increased to 70 percent.

All the parking lots in Shimla city became full in the afternoon itself. Lifts, metropole, old bus stand and railway parking also became full by evening. After this the tourists kept wandering for parking. Tourists parked their vehicles on both sides of the road from the lift to Toland. Tourists from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Gujarat, Kolkata and Maharashtra have reached Shimla to celebrate Holi. This includes friends groups and married couples. On Sunday, there were queues of tourists the whole day in the HPTDC lift connecting Cart Road to Mall Road. Vice President of Hotel and Restaurant Association, Prince Kukreja said that due to Holi, bookings in hotels have increased on weekends. With this, hoteliers are hopeful of good business.

All trains coming to Shimla packed till 26th March

Trains packed from the World Heritage Kalka-Shimla Railway Line reached Shimla on weekends. Till March 26, all trains coming from Kalka to Shimla are packed. Even on Sunday, trains reached Shimla with 100 percent occupancy. Due to Holi and children’s holidays, a large number of tourists from outside states visited Shimla. Six trains are being operated by the Railways. People have made advance booking to travel in toy trains. Mostly tourists from Maharashtra and Bengal have come to Shimla.

10,881 vehicles moved till 5 pm

In the capital Shimla, 10 thousand 881 vehicles moved from Solan towards Shimla from 8 am to 5 pm on Sunday. In this, 5 thousand 846 vehicles came from Solan towards Shimla. Whereas 5 thousand 35 vehicles went from Shimla towards Solan. Of these, 5 thousand 18 vehicles were from outside states.
