Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, April 12: A painful accident occurred on Friday in the old bus stand of Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. One woman died and another was seriously injured due to negligence of the driver of an HRTC bus in the old bus stand. The driver of the HRTC bus created a ruckus and hit another bus and a bike and car parked at the taxi stand. The police have taken the accused bus driver Praveen Thakur, resident of Sarkaghat, into custody. A case has been registered against driver Praveen in Sadar police station.

According to the information received from the police, the HRTC bus parked in the old bus stand was hit from behind by an HRTC electric bus (HP63A -9123). The collision was so terrible that the second HRTC bus collided with the railing ahead and the man and woman standing there also got hit by it and suffered serious injuries. The railing of the bus stand and a car and bike parked in the taxi stand were also damaged in the accident. Both the injured were taken to Ripon Hospital by the people present there, but doctors declared one woman dead.

Eyewitnesses present at the bus stand said that the parked HRTC bus was hit by an electric HRTC bus coming from behind. The collision was so strong that the parked bus was dragged forward and collided with the railing in front, in which a woman and a man standing there also got hit by it and suffered serious injuries. Eyewitnesses said that the injured woman and man were immediately taken to Dayal Hospital for treatment by the taxi drivers present at the spot. Another taxi driver said that he was in the vehicle at the time of the accident and he also suffered minor injuries. Sadar police station in-charge said that a woman has died in the accident. The body has been handed over to the relatives after post-mortem. A case has been registered against the accused bus driver regarding this accident and action is being taken.

HRTC suspended the accused bus driver –

The driver of the electric bus which created ruckus at the Old Bus Stand has been suspended by the HRTC management with immediate effect. The accused bus driver Praveen Thakur is a resident of Sarkaghat in Mandi district. He was serving in HRTC for about 12 years and has also served in Rohru and Keylong depot. Regional Manager of Shimla Local Unit of HRTC, Vinod Sharma said that the negligence of the driver of the electric bus has come to light in the accident that happened at the Old Bus Stand. He has been suspended with immediate effect. He said that Rs 25,000 has been provided as immediate relief to the family of the woman who lost her life in the accident.
