Shimla, August 24: Rain in Shimla on Saturday further cooled the already mild temperature, making the capital feel chilly. Though the temperature in Shimla was not high, the rain brought additional drop, making the weather even more pleasant. The city remained cloudy throughout the day, with light rains cooling the atmosphere.

The weather department has forecast intermittent rains in most parts of the state till August 29, while a yellow alert has been issued for August 27 and 28. Residents have been advised to prepare for possible disruptions due to possible heavy rains.

The impact of this change in weather has already been felt in the Manali area. Heavy overnight rains led to debris accumulating in the snow gallery on the Manali-Leh road at around 2 am on Thursday night. Besides, a landslide occurred in Dhundhi, resulting in the closure of the Manali-Leh road for nearly seven hours, causing considerable inconvenience to travellers and disrupting traffic in the region.

So far, 40 roads and 14 transformers are closed across the state due to the adverse weather conditions, affecting local communities and essential services. Authorities are working to clear the debris and restore connectivity, but both residents and travellers are advised to exercise caution.

Dharamsala and Manali also received drizzle on Friday, marking the start of a mixed weather pattern in Himachal Pradesh.
