Shimla, November 19: Himachal Pradesh is witnessing severe cold this time in the month of November. There is severe cold from hilly areas to plains. The temperature in tribal areas has dropped to 9 degrees below zero, while the effect of cold is being felt in the plains as well. Shimla, Manali and other hill stations are also facing severe cold. The mercury in Manali has gone below 3 degrees, due to which people are facing cold even in their homes.

The Meteorological Department has predicted further increase in cold in the coming days. There are chances of rain and snowfall in the high mountain areas of the state from 23 to 25 November, due to which the cold wave may intensify. This is expected to end the drought that has been going on in the state for the last one and a half months and farmers may get relief. The department has issued a yellow alert of dense fog in the plain districts of Bilaspur and Mandi on 20 and 21 November. On Tuesday, visibility was limited to 500 meters due to fog in Sundernagar of Mandi district.

According to the Meteorological Department, Monday night was the coldest night of this season in the state, where the minimum temperature of four cities was recorded in minus. In Tabo of Lahaul-Spiti district, the mercury dropped to -9.4 degrees Celsius, which happened for the first time this season. Due to this cold, the water of rivers, waterfalls and water sources has frozen and ice has also frozen in the passes. Traffic has also been stopped on the roads connecting Lahaul-Spiti.

The Meteorological Department says that the temperature of many areas of the state has been recorded 1 to 2 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature in Shimla was 8 degrees, 6.6 degrees in Sundernagar, 2.7 degrees in Manali, 9 degrees in Dharamshala and 7 degrees Celsius in Kangra.

Director of Meteorological Center Kuldeep Srivastava said that the weather will remain clear for the next three days, but from November 23, the weather will change due to the activation of Western Disturbance. After this, there is a possibility of rain in the central areas and snowfall in the high mountain areas. Snowfall may occur in the high areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Chamba and Kangra, while there is a possibility of rain in the mid-altitude areas.

It is worth noting that there has been no rain in the state since the end of September this year, due to which the drought has increased and farmers are facing problems in sowing crops. Due to no rain in November also, there is a shortage of water in many areas, due to which the water level of drinking water projects is decreasing.
