Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Sarkaghat(Mandi), March 31: Antra Thakur, 13 year old daughter of Gahira village under Sarkaghat sub-division of Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, has made the entire Himachal Pradesh proud by passing the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) ‘Yuvika’ examination. After passing ISRO’s ‘Yuvika’ examination, Sarkaghat’s 13 year-old daughter Antra Thakur will now participate in a two-week residential training camp being organized by ISRO in Dehradun, Uttarakhand state. After the residential training camp, 13 year old daughter Antra Thakur of Sarkaghat will gain many interesting information about science and space science.

Sarkaghat’s 13-year-old daughter Antra Thakur is originally a resident of Gahira village under Sarkaghat sub-division of Mandi district, but currently daughter Antra Thakur lives and studies in the capital Shimla. Daughter Antra Thakur’s father Santosh Thakur is working in a private company, while daughter Antra Thakur’s mother Urmil Thakur is a housewife. Daughter Antra Thakur also has a younger sister. Santosh Thakur, father of daughter Antra Thakur, told Diary Times correspondent Kumud Sharma that his daughter Antra Thakur is very interested in science and space science. Due to which his daughter Antra Thakur participated in the examination conducted under ISRO’s ‘Yuvika’ examination program and now by passing ISRO’s ‘Yuvika’ examination, her daughter Antra Thakur showed her talent.

This success of 13 year old daughter Antara Thakur of Sarkaghat has brought a wave of happiness in the entire family. According to unconfirmed information, ISRO’s ‘Yuvika’ examination was given by three and a half lakh children from all over India, out of which only 150 children were selected. These 150 children will now be undergo residential training by ISRO for two weeks. If the child develops a strong desire to become a scientist, then in the future child is provided all possible help from ISRO to move forward in this direction.

YUVIKA means ‘Young Scientist Programme’ which is being run by ISRO. Under this program, those school children who are interested in space and science are given a chance to come forward. The examination is organized every year by ISRO under the YUVIKA programme. In which children studying in class 9 can apply and participate. Through the YUVIKA examination, 150 meritorious people are selected, who are given two weeks training by ISRO. Its entire expenditure is borne by ISRO itself.
