Kinnaur, September 13: The high altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district received fresh snowfall on Thursday, leading to a sharp drop in temperatures across the region. Light snowfall occurred in high altitude areas, including Kalpa, Nichar and Pooh blocks of the tribal district. Notably, Kinnaur Kailash, Riopurgil and Sangla Kanda of Nako as well as places like Nakdam, Nithal, Thach, Khanadumti and Ranikanda received fresh snowfall.

According to reports, several places including Shoshala Peak of Raksham, Sigan Hills of Batseri and Bhavavali near the Indo-Tibetan border received around seven centimetres of fresh snowfall. While the high altitude areas witnessed snowfall, the lower areas of Kinnaur received continuous rain from morning to evening.

The weather change has led to a significant drop in temperatures, leading to a sharp drop in the cold in Kinnaur district. The rain also hit several parts of upper Shimla, further intensifying the cold wave.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rains on September 13, due to which people living in many parts of the state have to be cautious. According to the forecast, rain will continue in Himachal Pradesh till September 18. Apart from this, there is a possibility of moderate to high flood risk in some catchment areas of Shimla, Kinnaur and Sirmaur in the next 24 hours.
