Himachal Pradesh Police has launched “प्रधाव्”-Wipe out drugs campaign in collaboration with the youth of Himachal Pradesh to fight against the emerging problem of drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the society especially amongst the younger generation. The campaign aims to collect ideas from the youth of the state between the ages of 16-25 years to fight the menace of drug abuse.
The campaign was initiated at Police Headquarters, Shimla on 25th February, 2023 in which students of various institutions of H.P actively participated. Further, the “Pradhaav” contest was declared open on 13th March, 2023 with the launch of the five themes by the Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla. At present students are submitting their proposals on the five themes via online mode.
As part of the second leg of the competition “Pradhaav-2”, Himachal Pradesh Police is organizing a brain storming session of judges, advocates, public prosecutors, investigation officers and journalists at Police Headquarters, Shimla.

The last date of registration was earlier on 14th April, 2023, which has now been extended to 24th of April, 2023. As part of the second leg of the consultations “Pradhaav-2″, a discussion session of judges, advocates, public prosecutors, investigation officers and journalists was organized yesterday at Police Headquarters, Shimla. The session resulted in fruitful exchange of ideas between various stakeholders regarding how to make necessary changes in law and procedure to root out the drug menace. A discussion on whether to decriminalize/legalize cannabis cultivation in Himachal Pradesh also took place.
Shri Chirag Bhanu Singh, OSD, Hon’ble High Court of Himachal Pradesh was the chief guest of the event and Shri Arvind Malhotra, Registrar General of HP High Court; Additional Advocate Generals, Deputy Advocate Generals, Director Prosecution; senior advocates and senior journalists were also present during the event. Shri Sanjay Kundu, DGP HP; Shri Abhishek Trivedi, ADGP Law & Order; Smt. Satwant Atwal Trivedi, ADGP CID & Vigilance and other senior officers of Police also participated in the discussions.

Shri Sanjay Kundu informed that almost forty percent of the
inmates in prisons located in H.P. are booked under NDPS Act. He further added that there is a need look at the problem of drug abuse in holistic way. Senior advocate Shri Rakeshwar Lal Sood underlined the importance of family in inculcating anti-drug attitude amongst children. District Attorney Shri Kapil Sharma underscored the need to differentiate between drug addicts and drug peddlers, so as to prosecute the drug peddlers and rehabilitate the drug addicts.
The chief guest exhorted all the agencies concerned to come together and work in unison as fighting the drug menace is not the job of only one agency. He expressed hope that if all stakeholders make concerted efforts, then this malady can be cured.
The district level contest will take place on 10th of May 2023 and the range level contest will be held on 24th of May 2023. The grand finale of the event is scheduled for 26th of June 2023 at Shimla on the occasion of ‘International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking” when the three best proposals will be shortlisted and granted a prize of Rs 1.5 lakhs, Rs 1 lakh and Rs 75,000.
