Shimla, July 20:The government is preparing to give a big shock to homestay operators in Himachal Pradesh. The Himachal Pradesh government is going to make the electricity and water charges of homestays expensive. Actually, the state government does not charge any fee from those who operate homestays. On the contrary, to promote homestays, electricity and water facilities have been provided at domestic rates. Now the Himachal Pradesh government will provide electricity and water facilities in homestays at commercial rates.

Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh said in Shimla on Friday that this proposal has been placed before the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to amend the Home Stay Rules 2024. He said that the meeting of the sub-committee is proposed to be held on July 22. Decisions will be taken on various proposals in it. According to the information, this step is being taken by the state government to increase revenue. About 3512 home stays are registered in the state. These home stays use electricity and water at domestic rates.

There is a fee of Rs 100 for registration of home stay and Rs 50 for renewal. The state government is bringing a new policy regarding home stay after about a decade and a half. Earlier, the home stay policy came in the state in the year 2008. Home stays built in rural areas outside the urban areas of the state are being liked a lot by the tourists.

If we talk about the Corona period, then to work from home, the employees kept working at one place by booking for several months in home stay. Even today, a large number of people are found staying for a long time in home stays around Shimla city. The government does not charge any kind of fee from those running home stays. On the contrary, electricity and water facilities have been provided at domestic rates to promote home stays.
