Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, March 22: In Himachal Pradesh, a political camp is laying the groundwork to create conditions for by-elections in nine assembly constituencies instead of six. The pros and cons of taking a gamble on the possibility of getting the resignations of three independent MLAs and making them contest the by-elections again are being assessed. If this happens, it may create new political equations during the Lok Sabha elections and assembly by-elections. While six Congress rebels had cross-voted in favor of BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan in the election for the post of Rajya Sabha member, three independent MLAs KL Thakur, Ashish Sharma and Hoshyar Singh had also voted for the BJP candidate. Then, despite Congress having a good majority, BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan became Rajya Sabha MP.

After this, action was taken against six Congress MLAs Sudhir Sharma, Rajinder Rana, Ravi Thakur, Indradutt Lakhanpal, Davinder Kumar Bhutto and Chaitanya Sharma under anti-defection law. Himachal Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania canceled the membership of these six. After rejection of membership and disqualification, these six MLAs have filed a petition in the Supreme Court and in the meantime, by-elections have been declared in their constituencies. There is discussion that he may join BJP in the event of a decision from the Supreme Court or withdrawal of the petition. Talks are going on with their central leadership.

On the other hand, the three independent MLAs who supported BJP in the Rajya Sabha elections can leave the legislature and contest the elections again. An independent MLA himself has indicated that he also has this option. If these three contest elections again, they can accept this condition only if they get the ticket from BJP. If the three independent MLAs do this by resigning, then this will again create new equations in the political turmoil of the Himachal Pradesh.

Discussions are currently underway –
If we go to by-elections, we will have to resign. Whatever decision is taken, it will be collected. Right now the rounds of discussions are going on. We will do whatever the BJP high command says. Talks are also going on with six people from Congress. As far as going to elections is concerned, there is no pressure in this regard, but we have such an idea. State level BJP leaders are giving such suggestions, there is no talk at the central leadership level right now. The whole thing has gone on in public. Whatever decision will be taken, it will be taken only after consultation with the public.
