Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Nahan, March 13: A video has surfaced from Giripar area of Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh. In this video, a person is revealing that a dead rat has been found in a bag of flour. Hence, the matter became very sensitive. There is also an allegation of tampering with the expiry date of the flour bag.
Considering the video as serious, when fact checked, it was confirmed that the video was correct, but it was not true that it was flour supplied in government ration depots. Investigation revealed that the flour bag was packed from a flour industry in Kala Amb. Routinely, it was supplied to Shillai area, from there these open market consignments were sent to different shops and depots. A shopkeeper in Shillai sold two bags of 35 kg each on Sunday.

After a few hours, the customer lodged a complaint with the shopkeeper about finding a dead rat in a bag of flour. The shopkeeper immediately replaced the bag of flour. Also threw away potentially infected flour. Therefore, the sample cannot be sent to the laboratory. Fact check revealed that no complaint was filed regarding this matter because strict action is not expected.
Of course, there was no complaint, but along with the Food Supply Corporation, Food Safety and Regulation should do sampling of the food items being supplied in the area on a large scale. Besides, raids should also be conducted on the premises of flour industries running within the Himachal borders, so that it can be known whether the flour mills are running as per the norms. One person, who did not wish to be named, said the quality of food in the region is always at stake. A major part of flour consists of bran. He is surprised as to why the samples do not fail.

On the other hand, Regional Manager of Food Supply Corporation, Hussan Kashyap, in his first reaction said that it is through you that the information about a dead rat being found in a flour bag is being received. He can say something only after gathering information. After some time, in the second response, the regional manager said that flour has not been given to the customer from the government ration depot. Also said that sampling is done from time to time. He said that the corporation supplies only the government ration depots, for which it is accountable.
The special thing is that this matter has come to light from the home area of Industry Minister Harshwardhan Chouhan. It remains to be seen what steps are taken to improve the quality of food items in the area.
