To prevent the most deadly problem of landslides in the state, all heavy machinery including JCB, Poklanes and Dozers have already been deployed in 250 landslide prone areas identified by the Public Works Department so that loss of life and property can be dealt with immediately in case of landslides.

Gardeners in apple-growing areas have demanded that road facilities should remain smooth as the apple season has begun. Chief Engineer of HPPWD Surendra Paul Jagota gave suggestions to avoid landslides and said that “There are about 250 such places on the roads of Himachal Pradesh where the possibility of landslides is high. We have deployed machines at a distance of one kilometer on both sides of these places so that any incident can be dealt with immediately.”

The main reason for the impact of landslides at 250 identified places is the sudden cracking of hills and the falling of debris and stones on the roads.

With the deployment of heavy machinery by the PWD, the impact of landslides at 250 identified places will be easily stopped and traffic will be restored with immediate effect.

It is worth noting that in the year 2023, the state had to suffer a lot due to the heartbreaking natural disasters, which mainly included sudden boulders falling from the hills on the roads, falling of pillars affecting the traffic for several months and damage to about 33 bridges.

Taking lessons from the natural disasters of the year 2023, the PWD has deployed more than 1,300 employees on duty by cancelling their leaves to protect the road from landslides during the rainy season. Along with this, more than 500 machines have also been deployed in entire Himachal Pradesh in view of road safety.

Emergency control rooms have also been set up by the PWD in all four zones of the state to facilitate efficient communication and coordination.

Information from these control rooms is constantly being shared with the Public Works Department headquarters to ensure prompt response to any landslide event.
