Governor released the book ‘Dalhousie Through My Eyes’

Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, April 03: His Excellency the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla released the travel guide ‘Dalhousie Through My Eyes’ written by Dr. Kiran Chadha at Raj Bhavan today. Appreciating the efforts of the writer, the Governor said that Dalhousie city of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh has its own unique identity from the tourism point of view. He said that the author has described in detail about the changing nature of the city through the book. The book also provides important information about the heritage buildings, schools, churches, hotels, cantonments and places of tourist interest of Dalhousie city.

The Governor said that the Dhauladhar ranges and hills of Dalhousie have been brought to life through photographs. He said that it depicts the history of more than 150 years of Dalhousie. While describing the British period in the book, it has been told that this hill town was established by them in the year 1859-60. He said that books are the mirror of the society and they enhance knowledge. Information about the city’s rich history and geographical location has been compiled in this book.

Dr. Kiran Chadha, former Joint Secretary to the Government of India, is a writer and poet belonging to Dalhousie. This book contains a compilation of photographs taken by writer and cinematographer Vicky Roy. The book depicts the changes that have taken place in the city of Dalhousie through European culture and lifestyle and gives information about the Dalhousie Club.

On this occasion, Dr. Chadha said that in ‘Dalhousie Through My Eyes’, the history of almost two centuries of the city has been illustrated. She said that this travel guide gives complete information about the history of Dalhousie since the year 1859-60 and makes one aware of the untouched sites of the region. It also includes information about all the institutions, schools, cottages etc. located in Dalhousie. She said that this pictorial and historical travel guide on Dalhousie in its present mini version will prove to be highly beneficial and useful to the tourists and travelers as well as to the people associated with Himachal Pradesh tourism business.

Dr. Chadha was particularly associated with UN agencies on women empowerment. She has written several research papers and his article on World War II was published in the year 2001. She was honored with the Shrestha Putri Award by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh in the year 2002. She also runs an NGO ‘Swachh Dalhousie’ since 2014 and does many works related to social service. On this occasion, Secretary to the Governor Rajesh Sharma and other dignitaries were also present.
