India’s longest single span cantilever bridge has been completed in Bagchhal of Jhanduta. The 330 meter long Bagchhal Bridge is built on only two pillars. The distance between these two pillars is 185 meters. This distance between two pillars is called single span cantilever. Lakhs of people in four districts of Himachal Pradesh are going to benefit from the bridge.
On Wednesday, senior officials of the Public Works Department inspected the Bagchhal Bridge.
In departmental team Chief Engineer Hamirpur Zone Jitendra Kumar, Superintending Engineer Bilaspur Jeet Singh Thakur, Superintending Engineer Hamirpur Vijay Chaudhary, Executive Engineer Design Devanand has been involved.
According to departmental officials, Bagchhal bridge is going to be inaugurated soon.
The Bagchhal Bridge built on Gobind Sagar Lake to connect Jhanduta and Shri Nayanadevi Ji assembly constituencies is an unmatched example of engineering skills. This bridge is also going to remove the stain of backward area from Kotdhar. People of many areas of Hamirpur, Una and Kangra districts are also going to benefit from Bagchhal Bridge.
Punjab border is going to be just half an hour away from Bagchhal bridge. In the last one year, the construction of Bagchhal Bridge has progressed at a rapid pace. A 124 meter long section of Bagchhal bridge has been constructed in one year. It took 18 years to complete the construction of Bagchhal Bridge. Its construction has cost about Rs 55 crore.
The foundation stone of Bagchhal Bridge was laid on 20 August 2005 by the then Chief Minister Late. Virbhadra Singh did it. The construction of the bridge continued from 2005 to 2009. But after spending Rs 18 crore, the construction work of Bagchhal bridge stopped and one of its foundations had a technical fault. Due to this, the construction work of Bagchhal bridge was stopped and put on hold. In the year 2016, Himachal High Court had issued orders to the Himachal Pradesh Government to carry out the construction work of the Bagchhal bridge. A budget provision of Rs 32.70 crore was made to carry forward the process of construction work. In the last one year, Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh has held a review meeting of the construction of this Bagchhal bridge four times. Whereas Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani has also discussed the construction of Bagchhal Bridge with departmental officials several times.
The construction work of Bagchhal Bridge has been completed. The Bagchhal bridge will be inaugurated soon. This will be India’s first bridge with a 185 meter long single span cantilever. Approach road work has also been done on both sides of Bagchhal bridge.
