Shimla, July 19: Three newly elected MLAs of Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Kamlesh Thakur, Hardeep Singh Bawa and Ashish Sharma will take oath as MLAs on July 22 at 11 am. A spokesperson of the Assembly Secretariat said that Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania will administer the oath to the three newly elected MLAs. This oath ceremony will be held inside the House. Apart from Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, ministers and MLAs of the state government will also be present in the oath taking ceremony.
Let us tell you that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s wife and Congress candidate Kamlesh Thakur from Dehra Assembly constituency has defeated BJP’s Hoshyar Singh by 9,399 votes. Apart from this, Congress candidate Hardeep Singh Bawa from Nalagarh assembly constituency defeated BJP candidate KL Thakur by 8,990 votes and BJP’s Ashish Sharma from Hamirpur assembly constituency defeated Congress’ Dr. Pushpinder Verma by 1,571 votes.
Earlier, 6 newly elected MLAs Sudhir Sharma, Inderdutt Lakhanpal, Rakesh Kalia, Anuradha Rana, Captain Ranjit Singh Rana and Vivek Sharma took oath on June 12 last month. In the last by-election, Congress had won 4 and BJP 2 seats. In this way, in total 9 by-elections, Congress has won 6 and BJP 3 seats.
Congress has 40 MLAs in the 68-member assembly of Himachal Pradesh, while the number of BJP MLAs is 28.
In the 2022 assembly elections, the number of Congress MLAs was the same, while 25 BJP MLAs won and reached the House. Apart from this, three independent MLAs were also elected.
