Under the scrap policy made by the Himachal Pradesh government, if a private vehicle is scrapped, it will get 25 percent rebate in token, road tax and special road tax on the purchase of a new one. Whereas 15 percent discount is going to be available on commercial vehicles. To encourage people to scrap old vehicles, Himachal government has decided to give special concession. To protect the environment, the government has decided to provide this benefit on scrapping vehicles older than 15 years.

People will have to get their old vehicles scrapped at registered vehicle scrapping facility centres. The exemption is going to be available for 8 years for commercial vehicles and 15 years for personal vehicles. After scrapping his vehicle, if a vehicle owner himself does not want to buy a new vehicle, then he can give the benefit of concession under the scrapping policy to someone else. The grace period is to be calculated from the date of first vehicle registration.
