Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Mandi , March 03: 28-year-old Suman Kumari of Kutal village under Kotli sub-division of Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh has created history by becoming India’s first female sniper in BSF. Before this, no woman has become a sniper in BSF in the whole of India. While Suman Kumari’s historic success has brought a wave of happiness in Suman Kumari’s family, Kutal village and Kotli sub-division area, Himachal Pradesh and Whole India are also proud of the bravery of her daughter Suman Kumari.
The most special thing is that Suman Kumari was the only female sniper in the group of 56 male snipers who received sniper training and proved her bravery. Very tough training of 8 weeks was given at the Central Armament and Combat Skills School of Border Security Force located in Indore, MadhyaPradesh.

Suman Kumari, daughter of Kutal village, was recruited in BSF in the year 2021 and is currently working as Sub Inspector in Punjab Unit of BSF. Suman Kumari had resolved to take a sniper course after realizing the danger of cross-border sniper attacks while commanding a platoon in Punjab. Suman Kumari had voluntarily applied for the sniper course. Seeing the bravery of her daughter Suman Kumari, senior BSF officers also boosted the morale of Suman Kumari and approved her for sniper training course.
Trained snipers, after rigorous training, are able to take accurate aim from specified distances with other guns including SSG. Trained snipers are specially trained to operate in difficult situations while concealing their identity. All trained snipers are capable of hitting the enemy accurately from a distance of more than three kilometers.
Daughter Suman Kumari did not lose courage to complete the most difficult phase of training and stood firm till the end.
Suman Kumari has also become the first woman to get “Instructor Grade” in the extremely difficult eight-week BSF sniper training course.

Let us tell you that BSF sniper daughter Suman Kumari’s father Dinesh Kumar Thakur is an electrical contractor while her mother Maya Devi is a housewife. BSF Sniper Suman Kumari’s sister Sushma Thakur is a doctor, while BSF Sniper Suman Kumari’s brother Vikrant Thakur has passed B.Tech Electrical.
