Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, March 26: The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party has declared the candidates for the by-elections to be held along with the Lok Sabha elections on six assembly seats of Himachal Pradesh. BJP has given tickets to all the rebels of Congress. Sudhir Sharma from Dharamshala Assembly seat, Ravi Thakur from Lahaul-Spiti, Rajinder Rana from Sujanpur, Inderdutt Lakhanpal from Barsar, Chaitanya Sharma from Gagret and Davinder Kumar Bhutto from Kutlehar have been made candidates.

It is noteworthy that six disqualified Congress rebels and three independent MLAs had joined BJP in New Delhi last Saturday. While inducting him into BJP, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur were especially present. However, the resignations of independent MLAs have not yet been accepted by the Speaker of the Assembly. In such a situation, the situation will be clear later on the schedule of by-elections on their seats.

Let us tell you that after the 2022 assembly elections, Congress had 40 MLAs in the 68-member state assembly, while BJP had 25 MLAs. Independents held three seats. Six Congress MLAs were disqualified for not being present in the House despite being issued a whip while passing the Finance Bill. Independents have also resigned from their posts. After the resignations are accepted, there will be 59 MLAs left in the Assembly after reduction of nine MLAs.

When will the by-elections be held in Himachal?
The final and seventh phase of voting for four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh will be held on June 1. By-elections will also be held in six assembly constituencies on the same day. These six assembly constituencies are the same from where Congress has disqualified six rebel MLAs. The results will be declared on June 4. Election notification will be issued in Himachal Pradesh on 7th May. The last date for filing nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections has been fixed as May 14. The sorting of nomination papers will take place on May 15. Names can be withdrawn on May 17. The same process will be followed for the by-elections of six assembly constituencies.
