Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Hamirpur, May 28The pine forest in Bhalwani, which falls under the Agghar forest range in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh, has been completely burnt to ashes due to the massive fire that has been raging for the last five hours.In the horrific fire incident, 100 years old pine trees and 100 fruit plants from the gardens of the villagers were also burnt.The officials of the Revenue Department of Hamirpur District Administration are estimating the loss worth lakhs of rupees due to the massive forest fire incident.

Amandeep, head of Bhalwani Panchayat, who was a victim of arson, has said that at 9 am in the morning, some mischievous elements suddenly set fire to the years-old pine forest and ran away.As soon as information was received about the massive fire, all the villagers gathered together and first informed the sub-office of the fire department, Bhoranj and the police station in-charge.Due to the road being cut off, the fire brigade vehicle of Bhoranj arrived three hours late, after which the teams of Bhoranj police station, forest department employees and all the villagers made every possible effort to control the fire.

The transformer of the electricity department located in the pine forest of Bhalwani has been saved from the raging flames by the villagers.

Also, the villagers have saved themselves from loss worth lakhs of rupees by wisely removing the leaves of the old pine tree i.e. Chalaru.

About 100 jackfruit, pomegranate, guava, lemon and other plants planted by the villagers of Bhalwani Panchayat on the vacant forest land have been completely burnt to ashes.

The villagers of Bhalwani Panchayat have suffered a loss of Rs 30,000 after 100 fruit plants were burnt to ashes.

Bhalwani Panchayat head Amandeep said that now the villagers are keeping a close watch on mischievous elements setting fire to the forest and strict action is going to be taken against such people.
