Shimla, September 07: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, while chairing a meeting with the officials of the Energy Department, stressed the need to present the rightful claims of Himachal Pradesh in the court to provide maximum benefit to the people of the state. He said that the 110 MW Shanan Hydroelectric Project in Jogindernagar should be handed over to Himachal Pradesh, as the lease period of this project in favor of Punjab has expired.

The state government will approach the Supreme Court in this regard. The Supreme Court will be requested to give directions to the Punjab Government to hand over this project to Himachal. This issue will also be placed before the Central and Punjab Government for immediate handing over of the project.

The Chief Minister said that the state government will also expedite the matter of securing the just rights of the state in the Bhakra Beas Management Board. The Supreme Court has already given a decision in this regard. He said that the state government will make every effort to achieve this goal. The Chief Minister said that JSW Company will be given notice for non-compliance of the implementation agreement regarding the 1,045 MW Karcham-Wangtoo Hydro Power Project.

Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that to protect the interests of the state in the hydro sector, it has been decided to take 12 percent, 18 percent and 30 percent royalty from power projects. At the same time, a provision has also been made to hand over the project to the state government after 40 years. This step of the government will have far-reaching and positive results & the economy of the state will also be strengthened.

Hydro power and tourism are the major sectors of the state’s economy and the present government is giving top priority to both these sectors. He said that the state government is determined to make the state self-reliant by the year 2027 and the most prosperous and happy state of the country by 2032.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthi, Principal Advisor to Chief Minister Ram Subhag Singh, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Principal Secretary Finance Devesh Kumar, Secretary to Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, Law Secretary Sharad Kumar Lagwal, Managing Director of State Electricity Board Sandeep Kumar, Energy Director Harikesh Meena, Special Secretary Power Arindam Chaudhary and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
