After several leaks, the KTM 390 Adventure R officially made its global debut at EICMA 2024. It is an all-new motorcycle and has been one of the most awaited unveils at this year’s show. The design, components, cycle parts and engine specifications are all-new. Most importantly, the 390 ADV R will be off-road focused and is designed to take on rough terrain. We expect the motorcycle to be launched in India in early 2025 and could be priced a little under ₹ 4 lakh (ex-showroom).

Its front end features a Dakar Rally-like tall windscreen and inverted U-shaped DRL. Then you have the vertically stacked headlights and a tall front mudguard, which compliments the knobby rubber-wrapped 21-inch spoked rims. The motorcycle is underpinned by a steel trellis frame and the rear seems to be sharply inclined, similar to the bigger KTM ADVs. The main frame and sub-frame have been redesigned and are lighter than before. The KTM 390 Adventure R will feature a 21-inch and 18-inch wheel setup with spokes. The motorcycle gets adjustable front and rear suspension with 230mm of travel, indicating strong off-road capabilities. The seat is 860mm tall, which is more than the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the Hero Xpulse 200 4V Pro.

The motor will feature a 6-speed gearbox with a quick-shifter. In terms of features, the motorcycle gets a full colour 5-inch TFT screen with ride-by-wire and electronic rider aids such as switchable ABS, switchable traction control and Bluetooth connectivity. Like most off-road oriented motorcycles, the traction control and ABS can be switched off on the 390 ADV R as well.

The engine is protected by a solid-looking metal bash-plate. We are not able to understand why the 390 ADV R has an underbelly exhaust, which is relatively close to the ground. Usually, adventure motorcycles have an upswept exhaust which helps in tackling tough terrains and water crossings.

When launched in India, the KTM 390 ADV R will compete with the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the BMW G 310 GS. It will also be manufactured in India.
