The intensity of the earthquake was measured 3.2 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was about five kilometers below the ground surface.

Shimla, August 02: Earthquake tremors have shaken the ground after the devastation caused by the floods due to cloudburst in various parts of Himachal Pradesh. Mild tremors of earthquake were felt in the tribal district Lahaul-Spiti on Friday. According to the Meteorological Center Shimla, the earthquake tremors occurred at 9:45 am. The intensity of the earthquake was measured 3.2 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was about five kilometers below the ground surface. However, due to the low intensity of the earthquake, there has been no loss of life or property anywhere in the district.

Lahaul-Spiti has been hit by earthquake tremors several times in the last few years. However, the intensity of the earthquake has been low most of the times. Apart from Lahaul-Spiti, the earth is shaking repeatedly due to earthquake tremors in other districts of the state as well. Most of the earthquake tremors have come in Chamba district adjoining Jammu and Kashmir.

Let us tell you that Himachal Pradesh is included in the most sensitive zones four and five in terms of earthquake. In the year 1905, more than 10 thousand people died due to the devastating earthquake in Chamba and Kangra districts.

Heavy rain warning in Himachal till August 8, yellow alert….

People in Himachal Pradesh may have to face harsh weather for the next six days. Meteorological Center Shimla has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain with thunder and lightning till August 8. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra and Mandi districts.

The Meteorological Department has instructed people and tourists to keep distance from rivers and streams and not to travel to landslide prone areas. During the last 24 hours, 33 mm of rain was recorded in Kasaul of Kullu district, 19 in Seobagh, 3 mm each in Keylong and Bilaspur.

140 people died, 54 missing, 159 houses damaged in monsoon season. Monsoon arrived in the state on 27th June. According to the State Emergency Operation Center, 140 people have died in rain-related accidents in the state in the last 35 days. Out of these, 73 people have died due to drowning, slipping from height, snake bite and electric shock. Apart from this, 67 people have lost their lives in road accidents. During this period, 159 houses were damaged. Out of these, 45 houses were completely destroyed, while 114 houses were partially damaged. Apart from this, eight shops and 118 cattle sheds were also destroyed. A loss of Rs. 648 crore has been estimated in the state during the monsoon season.
