Shimla, 09 August: Earthquake jolts were felt in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh on Friday morning. According to the Meteorological Center Shimla, the earthquake jolts were felt at 9:53 am. The intensity of the earthquake was measured 3.3 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was about five kilometers below the ground surface in Mandi. People also felt the earthquake jolts in the areas adjoining Mandi. However, there has been no loss of life or property due to the earthquake.

This is the second time in eight days that the earth has shaken due to earthquake jolts in the state. Earlier on August 2, an earthquake of magnitude 3.2 had struck the tribal district Lahaul-Spiti. Earthquakes have struck the state several times in the last few years. However, the intensity of the earthquake has been low most of the times. The earth is shaking repeatedly due to earthquake jolts in the entire state. Most of the earthquake jolts have been felt in Chamba and Mandi districts.

Flash flood warning in six districts, heavy rain alert till August 15

Due to the activity of monsoon in Himachal Pradesh, it is raining heavily. During the last 24 hours, Jogindernagar of Mandi district has received the highest rainfall of 160 mm and Dharamshala, the district headquarters of Kangra, has received 112 mm rainfall. Talking about other cities, 111 mm rainfall has been recorded in Kataula, 98 mm in Bharari, 80 mm in Kandaghat, 78 mm in Palampur, 76 mm in Pandoh, 75 mm in Baijnath and 70 mm in Kufri.

Meteorological Center Shimla has expressed the possibility of flash flood in six districts in the next 24 hours and has appealed to the people to remain alert. Flood warning has been issued in Mandi, Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur and Kullu districts. According to the Meteorological Center, there will be heavy rain in the state till August 15. An orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for August 10 and a yellow alert from August 11 to 15.
