DGP Sanjay Kundu: Seventeen thousand police and eight thousand Home Guards personnel will conduct elections peacefully in Himachal.
Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Mandi, April 26:Â While addressing the press conference in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, Director General of Himachal Pradesh Police, Dr. Sanjay Kundu said that special arrangements have been made by Himachal Pradesh Police to successfully conduct the voting process of the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly by-elections in the entire Himachal Pradesh. He said that more than twenty-five thousand personnel of Himachal Pradesh Police, CAPF and Home Guards are going to be deployed during the entire voting process in Himachal Pradesh.
Before the press conference, an important meeting was also held by Dr. Sanjay Kundu in Police Line Mandi in which all the police officers of Central Range Mandi DIG as well Center Range participated.
By holding a meeting in the police line, Dr. Sanjay Kundu obtained all the information related to the preparations and security being done by the Mandi Police for the elections.
Dr. Sanjay Kundu said that a total of three thousand home guards are coming from other states. And seventeen thousand police forces along with eight thousand Home Guards are going to conduct the voting process peacefully.
DGP said that in order to successfully complete the voting process in the state, Himachal Pradesh Police has divided the entire Himachal Pradesh into five phases starting from pre-nomination till counting of votes.
He said that after the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, the Himachal Pradesh Police is effectively performing the responsibility of conducting the elections peacefully and maintaining law and order. He informed that in view of law and order, one hundred and seven checkpoints have been established on the interstate borders.
The DGP said that following all the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, till now 80 percent of the licensed weapons have been collected by Himachal Pradesh Police from all the districts of the state and strictness is being taken by the district police in collecting all the weapons. He said that those whose weapons have not yet been deposited will not be spared.
DGP said that many people are giving hate speeches using social media platforms during elections and Himachal Police is not going to spare them.
He also talked about arresting the people involved in illegal liquor business in the elections and installing CCTV in all the bottling plants.
He told that there will be strict security of Himachal Police at all the liquor vends.
Also, DGP has instructed the tourists to take some precautions in the tourist season which is going to start from the month of May. He said that all the tourists coming to Himachal from outer states are welcome. But keeping in mind the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, tourists should not enter the borders of Himachal with excess cash and liquor, otherwise tourists can be punished severely.
