DC Solan Manmohan Sharma: Provision Of One Year Imprisonment For Luring And Intimidating Voters
Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Solan, March 18: Solan District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Solan Manmohan Sharma said that in view of the Lok Sabha elections-2024, all necessary steps are being taken to conduct the election process in a free and fair manner. He said that flying squads have been formed to register cases against those involved in intimidating voters, giving bribes and taking bribes and to take strict action against such elements.

Manmohan Sharma said that according to Section 171-B of the Indian Penal Code, any person gives or takes any gratification in cash or kind with the purpose of inducing any person to exercise his electoral right during the election process. That person shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.
He said that according to Section 171-C of the Indian Penal Code, a person who threatens to cause any kind of injury to a candidate or elector or any other person is punishable with imprisonment of up to one year or fine or both.

Manmohan Sharma urged all the citizens of the district to refrain from taking any kind of bribe. If any person is offered a bribe or gets information about bribe or intimidation of voters, he can complain about such matter on the cell’s toll-free number 1950.
