Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh on Thursday chaired the meeting of the district level committee under the Narco Coordination Center-NCORD (NCORD) and reviewed the cases registered under the NDPS Act in the district, prevention of drug trafficking and arrangements related to drug prevention.

Hamirpur, June 29: Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh on Thursday chaired the meeting of the district level committee under the Narco Coordination Center-NCORD (NCORD) and reviewed the cases registered under the NDPS Act in the district, prevention of drug trafficking and arrangements related to drug prevention.

Apart from SP Bhagat Singh and ADM Rahul Chauhan, officials of Health Department, Education Department, Higher Educational Institutions, Youth Services and Sports Department and other departments, officials of organizations running de-addiction centers also participated in this important meeting. Apart from these, SDMs of various sub-divisions of the district also joined this meeting through virtual medium.

On this occasion, SP Bhagat Singh said that so far this year 42 cases have been registered in the district under the NDPS Act and the police have taken prompt and strict action in these cases. He said that during this period the district police has caught many big cases and rackets of drugs. Apart from this, preparations have also been made to run a campaign to make the common people, especially the youth, aware against drug abuse and to uproot the plants of cannabis etc.

Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh said that the cooperation of village panchayats, Mahila Mandals, Yuvak Mandals and other local institutions is also very important in the Bhang Uproot Abhiyan. The Deputy Commissioner said that there is a need to strengthen the de-addiction centers to get the youth who have been trapped in the trap of drugs due to some reasons out of it. The role of the health department is very important for this. He directed the officials of the health department to regularly inspect these centers and ensure strict compliance of all the rules in them. He asked the officials of the education department and various higher educational institutions to organize extensive awareness activities in all the institutions.

Other issues related to drug prevention were also discussed extensively in the meeting.
