MANDI — A tragic incident took place in Kaloh village of Sarkaghat in Mandi district on Wednesday morning when a couple, Sanjeev Kumar (45) and his wife Neelam Kumari, drowned after falling into a well located near their house.
According to local reports, Sanjeev was filling water when his foot slipped and he fell into the 35-feet deep well. Worried over his absence, Neelam went to check on him. Finding her husband drowned, she attempted to save him but she too slipped and fell into the well.
When the couple did not return home, Sanjeev’s mother Leela Devi panicked and rushed to the well. The mother informed the nearby villagers. Despite their efforts to pull the couple out of the well, both were declared dead.
DSP Sarkaghat Sanjeev Gautam confirmed the incident and said the matter was being investigated. They are survived by their 21-year-old son, who is pursuing higher education, and their elderly mother.
