Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu released from Patiala jail
Congress leader and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu was released from Patiala jail. Sidhu, 59, was serving a one-year jail term in the 1988 road rage case. The former Punjab Congress chief surrendered in a Patiala court, following which he was sent to jail on May 20 last year. The Supreme Court sentenced him to one year’s rigorous imprisonment. The court, in its order, had said that any sympathy shown for awarding inadequate punishment would cause further damage to the justice system. This will have an adverse effect on public confidence in the effectiveness of the law. Gurnam Singh, an elderly man of 65 years was killed in this incident.
