CM Sukhu: Serious issue of land encroachment on Himachal-Ladakh border raised, immediate action demanded to resolve unauthorised occupation
New Delhi, July 18: Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi today to raise the specific issue of land encroachment along Himachal-Ladakh border. During the crucial meeting, CM Sukhu apprised him of the need for immediate action to address the growing unauthorised occupation and encroachment of Himachal Pradesh Government’s land along the inter-state border areas of Lahaul Spiti and Ladakh at Sarchu and Shinkula.

CM Sukhu drew attention to the growing encroachment, and pointed out that significant administrative and security challenges will be faced in the times to come.The CM underlined the importance of maintaining clear and recognised boundaries to safeguard state land and prevent any further unauthorised occupation.
CM Sukhu urged the Union Home Minister to take prompt and decisive action to resolve the issue. He requested that the Central Government help in retrieving the encroached land and take appropriate measures to prevent unauthorized activities in future. The CM also called for the establishment of a joint task force comprising officials from both Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh to ensure coordinated and effective action in resolving border disputes.
Apart from the issue of land encroachment, the Chief Minister discussed Himachal Pradesh’s overall vulnerability to natural disasters, especially in the wake of the devastating impact of the recent monsoon.He reiterated his request for early release of financial assistance of Rs 9,042 crore assessed by a central team to aid the state’s disaster management and recovery efforts. CM Sukhu also highlighted other pending financial matters, including the release of Rs 61.07 crore under the State Disaster Response Fund for the financial year 2019-20 as recommended by the 14th Finance Commission.He pointed out the need for Rs 200 crore for management of landslides and earthquakes recommended by the 15th Finance Commission for the financial year 2021-26. Besides, he requested early release of Rs 60.10 crore under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and sought approval for a detailed project of Rs 125.84 crore under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund. The Chief Minister stressed the need for setting up of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) complexes in Himachal Pradesh and urged to start the construction work of the complexes in Mandi, Rampur and Nalagarh.
