Shimla, June 29: Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu laid the foundation stone of 10 MW solar power project at Aghlaur in Kutlehar assembly constituency of Una district. This solar power project will be completed in three months in an area of ​​19 hectares and will produce 22.73 million units of electricity per year. This project will generate a revenue of Rs 8 crore per year for the state government and will reduce 791 tonnes of carbon emissions.

Addressing a public meeting in Aghlaur, CM Sukhu said that this is the second solar power project in Una district and before this, a 32 MW solar project in Pekhubela has also been completed in a record six months. The Himachal Pradesh government will get a revenue of Rs 20 crore per year from the Pekhubela project.

The CM said that despite being an electricity surplus state, Himachal Pradesh buys electricity from the open market from October to March on which about Rs 1500 crore is spent. He said that due to less water in winter, power generation in hydropower projects decreases, due to which electricity has to be purchased from the market to meet the needs of the state.

CM Sukhu said that the Himachal government has signed an agreement with Oil India Company for the production of green hydrogen and special attention is also being paid to the exploitation of solar energy.

He said that the state government is also promoting solar energy exploitation in the private sector and a target has been set to harness 200 MW of solar energy in a year.

He said that the present state government is making continuous efforts to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant and harnessing solar energy is a step taken in this direction.

CM Sukhu said that Himachal Pradesh is getting 12 percent royalty from hydropower projects, which is very low.He said that Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVN) wanted to set up a solar power project in Aghlaur, but the state government decided to operate it on its own.He said that the State Government is ensuring availability of funds for various developmental projects and is moving towards making Himachal a self-reliant state, which is a direct proof of the strong will of the State Government.

He said that the previous BJP Government under the leadership of former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur failed to protect the interests of Himachal Pradesh. On the contrary, the present State Government is also ensuring the enhancement of the resources of the State by making the best use of them.

The CM expressed gratitude to the people of the area for electing Congress candidate Vivek Sharma in the Kutlehar assembly by-election and said that they are always ready for the rapid development of the area with sincerity.

On this occasion, local MLA Vivek Sharma welcomed the CM to the Kutlehar assembly constituency. He thanked the CM for the 10 MW solar power project. On this occasion, Congress State spokesperson Vijay Dogra, Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal, Director Finance Shivam Pratap Singh and other dignitaries were present.
