Shimla, June 17: For the assembly by-elections to be held on three seats in Himachal Pradesh, the ruling Congress party on Monday announced the names of its candidates for two of the three assembly seats. The candidates fielded in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections of 2022 from Nalagarh assembly constituency and Hamirpur assembly constituency of Himachal Pradesh have been given a second chance by the Congress party high command.

The Congress Party has maintained the trust by giving ticket to Bawa Hardeep Singh for the by-election to be held on the Nalagarh Assembly seat and to Dr. Pushpinder Verma for the by-election to be held on the Hamirpur Assembly seat.

The Congress party high command is stuck over the name of the candidate for the by-election to be held on the Dehra assembly seat of Himachal Pradesh.

For the by-election to be held on the Dehra assembly seat, the names of Rajesh Sharma, who was a candidate in the 2022 Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, senior BJP leader and former minister Ramesh Dhawala as well as other senior Congress leaders have come forward in the race for the ticket.

It is worth noting that the BJP had announced the names of its candidates for the by-elections to be held on all three seats of Himachal Pradesh five days ago.

Bawa Hardeep Singh, who has been made the Congress candidate from Nalagarh assembly constituency, has also been the president of Himachal Pradesh INTUC & he has been the chairman of the Labor Welfare Board in the former Congress government led by former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Late Virbhadra Singh.Bawa Hardeep Singh’s name is included among the close associates of Virbhadra Singh’s family. Now in the by-election to be held in Nalagarh assembly constituency, Bawa Hardeep Singh will have a direct contest with BJP’s KL Thakur.

Dr. Pushpinder Verma, who has been made the candidate by the Congress party high command for the by-election from Hamirpur assembly seat, comes from a political family. Dr. Pushpinder Verma’s father Ranjit Singh Verma has previously held the big post of Industry Minister.

Dr. Pushpinder Verma has got the ticket because he is considered close to CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Dr. Pushpinder Verma is a doctor by profession. Now in the by-election to be held from the hot seat Hamirpur assembly, Dr. Pushpinder Verma will have a direct contest with Ashish Sharma of BJP.

It is worth mentioning that in the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, independent candidates won the Hamirpur, Dehra and Nalagarh assembly seats.

In the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, Hoshyar Singh from Dehra assembly constituency, Ashish Sharma from Hamirpur assembly constituency and KL Thakur from Nalagarh assembly constituency tasted victory.

Along with this, the independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh had given their support to the ruling Congress party government after being elected, But in the election for a Rajya Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh on 27 February 2024, the three independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh first voted in favour of BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan and after that all the three independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh resigned from the membership of the Legislative Assembly and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Also, a day before the results of the Lok Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh, the resignation of all the three independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh was accepted by Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania.

The most noteworthy thing is that the BJP has given tickets to all three former independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh for the by-elections to be held on three seats of Himachal Pradesh.

The nomination process for the by-elections to be held in the three assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh started on June 14, which will end on June 21.

Voting will be held on July 10 on all three assembly seats of Himachal Pradesh and after the counting of votes on July 13, the Election Commission will announce the names of the winning candidates.
