Kullu, July 26: BRO has opened the Manali-Leh route which was closed for traffic due to floods in Anjani Mahadev Drain. BRO has restored this route after about 17 hours since the flood. BRO removed lakhs of tons of debris and boulders accumulated on the road in record time.

Manali-Leh highway was closed due to floods in Anjani Mahadev Drain near Palchan at midnight on Wednesday. Along with the flood, lakhs of tons of debris and boulders spread on the road. Although people did not expect the route to be restored in a day, but as soon as the situation became normal after the incident, 70 RCC of Border Roads Organisation started the restoration work and after working continuously for about 10 hours, they cleared lakhs of tons of debris and boulders and opened the single lane of Manali Leh strategic route. Major Ravi Shankar, Officer Commanding of 70 RCC, handled the steering of the loader during this mission and carried out the work.

Major Ravi Shankar said that he received information about the flood at 4 am. So the machines were brought to Palchan by 8 am. While the road restoration work started at 9 am. In this mission, BRO 70 RCC deployed 2 excavators, 1 wheel loader, 2 JCBs, 2 tippers and 2 dumpers along with 3 officers, 3 JEs, BRO and Army soldiers and 10 laborers. Major Ravi Shankar said that the closed road was restored late in the evening for single lane traffic. So now the situation is slowly becoming normal here.
