Shimla, August 24: BJP state president Dr. Rajeev Bindal has sought clarity from the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi on their stand on the possible re-implementation of Article 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir. His statement came in response to recent comments made by the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) ahead of the elections, in which they promised to restore the provisions if they win the elections.
Dr Bindal pointed out that the Congress party has reached an agreement with the National Conference and questioned whether this reflects Congress’ support for the National Conference’s stand on Article 370 and 35A. He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed significant development, reduction in terrorism and peace after the repeal of these articles. “Do they want to undo this progress?” he asked.
Furthermore, Dr Bindal raised concerns over the JKNC’s proposals to resume trade and dialogue with Pakistan and urged the Congress to clarify its stand on these issues. He also questioned whether the Congress supports the JKNC’s alleged intention to give government jobs to those involved in stone-pelting and terrorism, as well as their proposal to hoist another flag alongside the tricolour.
“Jammu and Kashmir is on a path of rapid development, with substantial investments pouring in, industries being set up and a growing network of railways and roads. Tourism has also flourished in the last five to six years,” Dr Bindal said. He challenged the Congress to clarify whether it supports actions that could potentially reverse this progress.
