Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, New Delhi, March 12: Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar resigned from the post on Tuesday amid political turmoil in the North Indian state of Haryana. According to the information coming out, Khattar has submitted his resignation to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya on Tuesday. Although the reasons have not been clearly disclosed, it is believed that the BJP leadership may make major changes in Haryana amidst the fear of breaking the alliance with Jannayak Janata Party.

BJP Legislature Party meeting can also be held on Tuesday itself. At present, the situation regarding the next Chief Minister is not clear, but there is speculation that Naib Singh Saini, who belongs to the non-Jat community, may be given the command of the Chief Minister. At the same time, outgoing Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar can contest elections from Karnal.

According to discussions, central BJP leaders including Union Minister Arjun Munda and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb have camped in the state for surveillance. At present, senior party leaders are maintaining silence.

It is believed that relations between Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala’s party JJP have soured over seat distribution in the state for the Lok Sabha elections. In 2019, BJP had won all 10 seats in the state.

The tenure of the current Haryana Assembly is going to end in November 2024, hence elections are also to be held later this year. There are 90 seats in the assembly. In the 2019 assembly elections, BJP formed the government by winning 40 seats. The government was formed with JJP alliance. JJP had got 10 seats, while Congress’s figure was 31. Of these, 9 MLAs are independent.
