Shimla, July 12: Kamlesh Thakur, wife of the honourable Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, has won the assembly by-election. After the 10th round of counting, Congress candidate Kamlesh Thakur from Dehra assembly seat got 32,737 votes, while BJP candidate Hoshyar Singh had to be content with 23,338 votes. Hoshyar Singh missed a hat-trick of victory. In postal votes, Kamlesh Thakur got 612 votes, while Hoshyar Singh got 478 votes.

However, after CM Sukhu’s wife won the by-election, the number of women MLAs in the assembly has increased to 3. This will be the first time when both husband and wife will be members of the assembly, that too when the husband of the woman MLA is the Chief Minister. After winning the by-election of Dehri Vidhan Sabha, the credibility of Chief Minister Sukhu has increased, because it was not easy to win by overcoming the criticism of nepotism in the current politics.

Although nepotism is visible in Himachal Pradesh, this did not happen even during Virbhadra Singh’s tenure, when he fielded his wife in the by-election. During Virbhadra Singh’s tenure, Pratibha won the election, but did not become an MLA. It was certain that the father and son were members of the House. During Virbhadra Singh’s last tenure, Vikramaditya Singh succeeded in becoming an MLA for the first time.

Out of the three assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh, most eyes were on the Dehra assembly constituency of Kangra. The interesting thing was that the CM’s wife could not cast her vote here, because she is a voter of Hamirpur’s Nadaun assembly constituency. Everyone’s eyes were on the Dehra seat of Himachal Pradesh, because CM Sukhu’s wife Kamlesh was in the fray here. This seat was created after delimitation in 2012, since then Congress has not been able to win here in the three elections so far. BJP candidate Hoshyar Singh had won the election twice as an independent. In the last two elections, Hoshyar Singh was also benefiting due to the triangular contest, but this time the contest had become face to face.
