Bagipul/Nirmand, August 13: The state government has completed the construction of a Bailey Bridge at Bagipul in just five days, restoring connectivity in the flood-affected area. Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh inaugurated the new bridge, wherein he emphasized the state’s commitment to disaster relief and highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in managing disaster responses.

Addressing a public gathering, Singh praised the prompt action and tireless efforts of the Public Works Department (PWD) in completing the bridge in record time. “Dealing with disaster is a collective responsibility, which is beyond party politics. We all must work together so that relief reaches those in need as soon as possible,” he said.

The newly constructed Bailey Bridge has replaced the previous structure that was washed away in the recent floods. The bridge is crucial for reconnecting dozens of panchayats with the Nirmand area, ensuring that essential services and resources are accessible once again. Singh flagged off vehicles on the bridge, symbolising the restoration of normalcy and improved connectivity for residents.

The minister also addressed the impact of the bridge on the local economy, especially for apple growers whose livelihood depends on timely access to markets. “Now with the commissioning of this bridge, apples of our growers will reach markets without delay, so that their hard work will not go waste,” Singh said.

Singh also announced plans to upgrade the Bajir Bawdi to Nitthar road under a World Bank project. This key road essential for Nitthar and Bagipul areas will be widened to enhance accessibility and support local economic activities. Singh also contributed ₹51,000 to the local disaster relief fund set up by state Congress senior vice-president Buddhi Singh Thakur and assured residents that road repairs in the area would be given priority.

The newly constructed Valley Bridge, constructed at a cost of about ₹2.5 crore, connects dozens of panchayats to the Nirmand area.
