At least 1 killed, 34 injured in bus accident in South Korea’s Chungju

A bus carrying dozens of Israeli tourists in South Korea overturned on Thursday, killing at least one passenger and injuring several others. According to the Foreign Ministry, a bus with 34 Israelis was involved in a traffic accident in Chungju, South Korea.

The ministry said that according to South Korean health officials, one Israeli woman was killed in the accident, two people were very seriously injured, five were seriously injured and the remaining people were lightly injured. In the pictures of the incident that are coming out, the bus is overturning on the road.

According to South Korean Yonhap news agency, the bus’s driver told police investigators that the accident was caused by a gearbox malfunction, and that the bus stalled and rolled backwards, unable to change gears. Eyewitnesses told the news agency that they saw the bus stop on a hill and then slid backwards before turning around.
