Arvind Kejriwal Arrest News: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal’s has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in excise policy-linked money laundering case. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal becomes the first sitting chief minister to have been arrested.

Earlier the Delhi High Court had rejected a plea seeking protection for the Delhi CM from coercive action in the excise policy-linked money laundering case. 

Following this the Enforcement Directorate began conducting searches at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Civil Lines. The Delhi Chief Minister had till now skipped nearly nine ED summons issued to him in the money laundering case.

“The arbitrary arrest of yet another CM by ED reeks of political vendetta & growing authoritarianism. This cowardly act has exposed fears of the ruling party now resorting to desperate measures by manipulating elections even before they are held. History has shown that tyranny never prevails in the face of unified resistance. We will not be intimidated,” tweets PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti.

Kejriwal’s arrest could dent AAP’s prospects in Lok Sabha polls

The arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Thursday night could not have come at a worse time for the Aam Aadmi Party, which is already grappling with the absence of its top leadership from action.

The party is eyeing at expanding its footprint across the country and has tied up with the Congress to contest the Lok Sabha polls against the BJP in Delhi, Haryana and Gujarat.

Kejriwal is the fulcrum of the party’s Lok Sabha campaign and its star campaigner. The party is already feeling the pinch of the absence of its senior leaders like Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain and Sanjay Singh.

Now the arrest of Kejriwal has landed the ruling party of Delhi in the doldrums.

Not only does Kejriwal’s arrest threaten to derail the party’s Lok Sabha campaign, it could have long standing repercussions on governance in Delhi and the Assembly polls next year.

For now, the party is maintaining a brave face and saying, ‘Ladenge, Jeetenge’ but the truth is that a bumpy road in the coming days awaits the 12-year-old party.

BJP can stoop to any low to make Kejriwal bow down, alleges AAP

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged that there was a “huge conspiracy” behind Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest ahead of the Lok Sabha polls and accused the BJP of stooping to any level to make him bow down.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Kejriwal from his residence here on Thursday evening, officials said, shortly after the high court refused to grant the AAP leader protection from coercive action in an excise policy-linked money-laundering case.

Delhi Cabinet minister Atishi said Arvind Kejriwal will continue as the chief minister and run Delhi government from prison if needed after his arrest by the ED in an excise policy-linked money laundering case.

She also said that the Aam Aadmi Party has moved the Supreme Court against the action by the federal agency.

“He will continue as the chief minister of Delhi. If need be, he will run the government from jail. There is no rule that stops him from running the government from jail,” Atishi told reporters in national capital Delhi.
