Shimla, July 26: Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur has levelled scathing allegations against the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, saying that the party has always given priority to political interests over public interest. Thakur’s remarks came after the Chief Minister controversially boycotted the Niti Aayog meeting in Delhi.

Thakur criticised the chief minister’s decision to stay away from the crucial Niti Aayog meeting, calling it a politically motivated move that undermines the interests of Himachal Pradesh. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always considered Himachal Pradesh as his second home and has always given priority to the interests of the state. However, the Congress has time and again given priority to petty politics, thereby compromising the welfare of the state,” Thakur said. “The chief minister’s decision to skip the Niti Aayog meeting is not only unfortunate but also highly condemnable. It is a direct attack on the interests of Himachal Pradesh. I urge Sukhu ji to reconsider and raise issues related to our state in this crucial meeting.”

Thakur also criticised the Congress government’s performance in the last 18 months and described it as characterised by “anarchy, arrogance and injustice”. He accused the current government of focusing on benefiting its allies rather than meeting the needs of the public. “In just 1.5 years, the Congress has taken a loan of Rs 25,000 crore, taking the state’s total debt burden to Rs 95,000 crore. Instead of investing in public services, the government has closed health institutions, schools and reduced benefits for workers and school children. The Congress government’s actions have only served its friends, ignoring the wider needs of the public.”

Thakur underlined the importance of the Niti Aayog meeting as an important platform to discuss and secure financial assistance and projects for Himachal Pradesh. “By boycotting the Niti Aayog meeting, the chief minister is losing a crucial opportunity to present the state’s needs and seek assistance from the central government. This decision is not in the best interest of Himachal Pradesh,” Thakur said.

The former Union minister called upon the chief minister to respect the federal structure of governance and prioritise the welfare of the state above political considerations. “The chief minister should keep aside political differences and attend the Niti Aayog meeting keeping in mind the interests of Himachal. Negative politics will not benefit the state,” Thakur said.
