Just like the political developments that took place during the Rajya Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh Assembly, the same happened in the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in Solan Municipal Corporation when in the last phase of the election, a Congress party leader joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in greed for a hot seat, due to which the Congress party had to face a huge defeat in the elections of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Solan Municipal Corporation.

Now the Congress party has taken a tough stand and has disqualified the Mayor of Solan Municipal Corporation Usha Sharma, along with this the former Mayor and Councillor Poonam Grover of Solan Municipal Corporation has also been disqualified, Due to which by-elections are going to be announced in three wards in Solan Municipal Corporation, But the Deputy Mayor of BJP Meera Anand is going to rule in Solan Municipal Corporation.

Let us tell you that in 17 wards of Municipal Corporation Solan, elections were held between BJP and Congress, in which Congress party won 9 seats and BJP won 7, along with this an independent candidate also won.

In the elections of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Solan Municipal Corporation, a serious allegation was made by Solan District President of Congress Party and Councilor Sardar Singh Thakur that in the elections of Mayor and Deputy Mayor, the guidelines of Congress Party were not followed by the Councilors Poonam Grover, Usha Sharma, Rajiv Kumar and Abhay Sharma of Congress Party, whereas the elections of Solan Municipal Corporation were fought on the party symbol.

In the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation Solan, the three councilors of Congress Party did not vote for the authorized candidate of Congress Party, Due to which, a detailed investigation was also done by Solan District Administration Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Manmohan Sharma regarding the entire matter and in the investigation report it was told that action can be taken against Usha Sharma and Poonam Grover of Congress Party under Section 8A of Himachal Pradesh MC Act 1994, because they have crossed the limits of rules by voting against party.

Also, Manmohan Sharma had also told in his investigation report that councilors Rajiv Kumar and Abhay Sharma had also voted against the authorized candidate of Congress, but it is not known whether they voted against the Congress candidate or voted for the BJP candidate.

In the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation Solan, Congress party had won 9 out of 17 seats. Whereas BJP had 7 councilors and Usha Sharma of Congress party got the chair of Mayor, along with BJP’s Meera Anand was successful in grabbing the chair of Deputy Mayor. An independent candidate Manish Sopal also won the election in the Municipal Corporation Solan election, Due to two councilors being disqualified by the Congress party, by-elections will be announced in three wards of Solan Municipal Corporation. By-election is also going to be held in ward number 5 due to the death of BJP councilor Kulbhushan Gupta.

Municipal Corporation Solan Commissioner Ekta Kapta said that currently only 14 councilors are left in the house of Municipal Corporation Solan, Because two councilors have been disqualified by the Congress party, while one councilor of BJP has passed away.

In the political developments that took place in Municipal Corporation Solan on 5 December 2023, Usha Sharma of Congress won the election for the post of Mayor, while Meera Anand of BJP also won the post of Deputy Mayor.
