Experts at AIIMS Bilaspur told Diary Times correspondent Kumud Sharma that cervical cancer can be easily prevented by some simple measures.

Young girls aged 14 to 19 years are given HPV vaccination to prevent cervical cancer.

HPV vaccination is also recommended for girls ages 15 years to 20 years.

HPV vaccine is a major part of the national immunization program in most developed countries.

The HPV vaccine is offered to all school-going girls aged 9 years to 14 years.

All girls aged 9 years to 12 years should receive two doses of the HPV vaccine and girls aged 15 years to 20 years should receive three doses of the HPV vaccine.

Young girls should take special care of their body hygiene –

To prevent cervical cancer, it is most important to adopt sexual hygiene and condom protection. All women in the age group of 30 years to 65 years should get cervical smear test done regularly. Cervical smear testing is done every 3 years to 5 years, depending on the type of test planned. During the cervical smear test, a doctor-health worker examines the cervix of all women aged 30 to 65 years.

If women have pain in the lower abdomen, they should definitely get themselves tested for cervical cancer –

In women, special advice should be taken from a gynecologist for abnormal bleeding or discharge, pain in the lower abdomen. It is possible to completely cure women with cervicitis in the early stages. Women suffering from cervical cancer should receive prompt treatment and regular follow-up.
