Shimla, July 05: A delegation of Luhri Hydroelectric Project affected people reached the office of Deputy Commissioner Shimla on Friday. During this, the delegation placed various demands before the Deputy Commissioner Shimla, in which DC Shimla was asked to provide employment to the people from the affected families and to stop the illegal dumping in the area.

CPIM leader Rakesh Singha said that the hydroelectric projects built on the Sutlej river have become a matter of controversy today. He has reached the Deputy Commissioner’s office Shimla today especially regarding the Luhri Hydroelectric Project. Rakesh Singha said that 132 people lost their land under the Luhri Hydroelectric Project, but people from these affected families have not been given employment.
Apart from this, Rakesh Singha said that illegal dumping is being done in the area which should be stopped immediately. He is also going to meet the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh regarding this. He said that the delegation has placed all its demands before the Deputy Commissioner Shimla that the Shimla District Administration should ensure that the Luhri Hydroelectric Project under construction is constructed as per the rules.
During this, Rakesh Singha said that CM Sukhu had talked about holding a comprehensive meeting on June 10 in this regard, but elections are being held continuously in Himachal Pradesh. In such a situation, this matter is also getting dragged. Therefore, he has now submitted his demands to the Deputy Commissioner Shimla.
He expressed hope that the Shimla District Administration and the Himachal Pradesh Government will take cognizance of his words, otherwise he will have to resort to agitation.
