According to the news agency AP, the police have said about the incident that two explosions took place inside the police station. Due to this explosion, the buildings have been completely leveled. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Pakistani Taliban have claimed similar attacks since ending a ceasefire with the government last year.
At the same time, the police said that an anti-terrorist operation was carried out in the province’s Lakki Marwat district, in which three terrorists and a police officer were killed, hours after it exploded. At the moment it is not clear whether the attacks on the police station are related to it or not. Senior police officer Ataullah Khan said a portion of the anti-terrorist police building collapsed and rescue workers pulled out bodies of the dead and injured. He said that the death toll may increase.
Ataullah Khan said the police compound also houses the Kabal City police station and the headquarters of a reserve police force, but the counter-terrorism department building has suffered the most. At the same time, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif condemned the incident and expressed condolences for the dead. He wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. Along with this, he sought a report of the incident from the concerned authorities.
Let us tell you that the Swat Valley was once a stronghold of Islamic militants, who imposed strict Sharia, or Islamic rule, in the region. In 2007, the army launched a massive operation there in which the militants were eliminated and normalcy was restored. The Pakistani Taliban, formally known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, is a separate group from, but closely related to, the Afghan Taliban.
