Assam, Arunachal sign agreement on border dispute in presence of Amit Shah

The long-standing dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh has finally been resolved. The governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to settle the inter-state border dispute between the two states in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prema Khandu signed the MoU on Thursday.

Amit Shah described the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border agreement as a “historic” event. He said that with this the decades old disputes have come to an end. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, border settlement “big and successful” moment. At the same time, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu called it ‘historic’.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there was a border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh since 1972. Today we have resolved all disputes through dialogue. Approval was received from the cabinet a day ago
The Assam cabinet on Wednesday (April 19) approved the recommendations made by 12 zonal committees set up by the state government to resolve the issue of the decades-old border dispute with Arunachal Pradesh. Announcing the cabinet decisions, Assam minister Ashok Singhal had said that the long-pending border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh was going to be resolved.
