A devastating fire ripped through a popular pub in Thailand’s capital early Monday, leaving 27 people dead and several others injured in one of the country’s deadliest nightlife disasters in recent years. The tragedy unfolded at Na Ladprao Pub in northern Bangkok, where panic spread within minutes as flames and thick black smoke engulfed the building.

According to emergency responders, the fire broke out shortly after midnight. Videos shared by first responders captured terrifying scenes of people rushing toward the exits while dense smoke poured from the entrance of the pub.

Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who visited the scene, confirmed the death toll and said several injured victims had been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. He also stated that authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the blaze.

Initial witness accounts suggest the fire may have started near the stage area. A musician performing at the venue reportedly told officials that smoke began rising from a circuit breaker moments before the electricity failed. Shortly afterward, an explosion was heard, and thick smoke rapidly filled the crowded pub, making escape extremely difficult.

Officials revealed that many victims were found inside the restrooms at the rear of the building, indicating that several people may have been trapped while attempting to escape the smoke and flames.

Firefighters battled the inferno for nearly 30 minutes before bringing it under control. Images from the site later showed the pub’s interior completely charred, with burnt furniture and extensive structural damage.

The latest tragedy has once again raised concerns over fire safety standards in Thailand’s entertainment venues. The country has witnessed similar incidents in the past, including a 2022 music pub fire that killed 14 people and the 2009 Santika nightclub disaster in Bangkok, where 66 people lost their lives and more than 200 were injured after a fire reportedly caused by indoor fireworks.

Authorities are continuing forensic examinations at the scene, while investigators work to determine whether negligence or safety violations contributed to the deadly incident. More details are expected as the investigation progresses.
