A spell of intense rainfall accompanied by strong winds threw normal life out of gear in Himachal Pradesh’s Una district on Sunday morning. The heavy downpour, which continued for nearly 90 minutes, flooded several low-lying areas, uprooted trees, disrupted traffic, and caused widespread power outages across the district.
One of the worst-affected locations was the stretch of National Highway-503A near the Mini Secretariat in Una town, where rainwater accumulated for several hours, slowing the movement of vehicles. Water also entered the basements of several commercial buildings, while nearby residential colonies witnessed severe waterlogging.
The impact of the heavy rain was not limited to Una town. Areas including Gagret, Pandoga, Amb, and Bangana also reported flooding in both residential and commercial localities, affecting daily life and creating inconvenience for residents.
Strong winds uprooted several trees across the district. On the Una-Gagret road, a fallen tree partially blocked traffic, forcing commuters to face delays. Officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) quickly reached the spot, cleared the obstruction, and restored smooth vehicular movement.
As a safety measure, the Electricity Department temporarily suspended power supply in most parts of the district to prevent accidents caused by damaged electricity lines during the storm. Electricity remained unavailable for several hours before being restored gradually as weather conditions improved.
The sudden spell of heavy rain highlights the growing impact of the monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh, with authorities urging residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and strong winds.
