Himachal Pradesh to Introduce Merit-Based Postings in CBSE Schools, Says Education Minister

The Himachal Pradesh government is preparing to implement a merit-based system for the appointment of teachers and principals in schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Education Minister Rohit Thakur announced on Thursday.
Addressing concerns over pending appointments, the minister stated that the Education Department remains committed to ensuring transparency and fairness in the recruitment process. According to him, postings in CBSE-affiliated schools will be made strictly on the basis of merit.
Thakur revealed that a detailed review meeting was held on Wednesday to discuss the issue. The findings of the meeting will be presented to the Chief Minister, and if necessary, the proposal may also be placed before the state Cabinet for further consideration.
The Education Department had previously conducted a qualifying examination for in-service teachers and principals seeking appointments in CBSE schools. Nearly 6,000 candidates successfully cleared the examination, but many are still waiting for their posting orders.
Several teachers have expressed concern over the delay, alleging that administrative challenges related to transferring staff already serving in CBSE schools have slowed down the appointment process.
Responding to these concerns, Rohit Thakur assured candidates that the posting process would commence soon after receiving approval from the Chief Minister.
The proposed merit-based appointment system is expected to bring greater transparency to the education sector and provide clarity to thousands of qualified teachers awaiting deployment in CBSE institutions across Himachal Pradesh.
